25EMILY HAYESコロナウイルスが世界中に蔓延し、私達は封鎖的な生活を送るようになった。Emilyによって表現された「connections」は、その環境下で増えた自然とのつながりである。といっても、彼女の表現した「自然とのつながり」は植物と人間が大々的に触れ合うことを意味している訳ではない。彼女が表現する自然とのつながり。それは、このポストカードのモチーフで使われたツルの植物のように、ゆっくりと忍び寄ってくる様子そのものだ。白い画面の隙間から覗くひっそりと生えた植物。まるで普段の生活であまり意識していなかった植物とのつながり、その意外にも身近にある存在に気づかせてくれるかのようだ。彼女の語った「植物が戻ってきた」という言葉は、私にとても深い印象を与えた。「私たちは多くの点で自然があることを当然のことのように考えいる。今まで以上に、これからの前例のない時代に新鮮な空気の中で外に出ることが非常に重要であると思う。」彼女はこの作品を通してそんなメッセージを伝えたいと言っていた。大きく変わってしまった日常の中で大切なものは何なのかを示した作品、そしてそれに気づき多くの人に発信してくれた彼女に出会えたことを私は嬉しく思う。Emily HAYES『Back To Our Roots』2021年 写真、描写Born in Fuji, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
