37MILLY TAYLORつながりは何も目に見えるものだけでは無い。アーティスト、Milly Tylerは自身の専攻分野におけるテキスタイルの繊維同士の物理的なつながりと、友人や家族との関係性や感情的なつながりに着目してこの作品を作り上げた。この作品のコンセプトは「私的な持ち物と思い出とのつながりについて。そのつながりとは、センチメンタルな持ち物が、いかに人や時代の感情、記憶を生み出すことができるかということです。」と作者は語った。この作品は作者の亡くなった祖母が編んだスカーフの糸と、その繊維にインスピレーションを受けて描いた絵で構成したものを複製や反転し、1つの作品に仕上げたものである。目に見える物理的な糸と、本来ならば見えない作者の感情的な思い出を可視化したものがつながり、テキスタイルの繊維、『Purple Thread』として、作者にとって大切なスカーフを作り上げている姿を私たちは見る事ができるだろう。Milly TAYLOR『Purple Thread』2021年 祖母の編んだマフラーの糸、絵の具Born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Artist Milly Tyler's work focuses on the physical connections between textile fibres in her field of study, as well as the emotional and relational connections between friends and family.The concept of the piece is "about the connection between memories and personal items. It is about how sentimental belongings can create emotions and memories of a person or a time.＂said the artist.The work consists of yarns from a scarf knitted by the artist's late grandmother and drawings inspired by the fibres, which have been reproduced and reversed to create a single work.We can see how the visible physical thread and the invisible visualisation of the artist's emotional memories are connected to form a textile fibre, the "Purple Thread”, to create a scarf that is dear to the artist.Milly TAYLOR
