In recent years, the development of information and communication technology has enriched our lives. And the influence of digital natives, known as Generation-Z, is attracting attention. They are now paying attention to Tanka poetry. The reasons for this will be discussed based on the characteristics of the SNS era, Generation-Z, and the factors behind the previous Tanka boom. First, the characteristics of modern society with SNS and Generation-Z as keywords were explored. In particular, the characteristics of Twitter and Generation-Z to be the key to the popularity of Tanka were considered. Then, the flow of Tanka up to the present day was described, paying attention to modern Tanka. Tanka, which was born in the Nara period, has gone through several waves. “Salada Kinenbi” by TAWARA Machi was taken up to unravel modern Tanka. Next, the characteristics of Tanka in the Reiwa period and its previous contents were reviewed, and the factors behind the popularity of Tanka in Reiwa were considered. The Tanka poetry currently in vogue has characteristics that are compatible with the characteristics of SNS and Generation-Z, in addition to the characteristics of the previous trends. Furthermore, the representational nature of Tanka influences the popularity of Tanka. Finally, a summary of my research was presented. In addition, a new question that had arisen was described. After the current contemporary Tanka fad settles down, what kind of fad of word representation will be seen in the future? I would like to think about the question that has emerged while paying attention to how society will change in the future in modern Japan, where the modern Tanka trend is accelerating.23 ■■■■24
